Why would someone who apparently is not actively pursuing/trying to build a writing career want to serve as an officer in a writers' organization?

Discussed in a neat blog that I think I'll be adding to my favorites list.

When you come in to work to find an email from someone informing you that they left a bag in your cube for safekeeping while they're out on vacation, you have no way of getting in touch with them until they get back, and THERE IS NO BAG.

Not the rat poison findings, but a reassuring email from the Mars company, whose brands weren't affected:

On March 16, Menu Foods, a manufacturer of pet foods, announced that it was recalling millions of cans and foil pouches of wet dog and cat food.

I received the email today. I confess to feeling relieved, because Pedigree was the last soft food my guys got. Granted, it was weeks ago, and I would have seen any ill effects by now, but still...

"I'll stack it in a pile and sort through it later."
