The good news is that my tax refund finally turned up. The Huh? news was that I had requested Direct Deposit, and wound up receiving a paper check via schnail mail.

I need to look at the form--did I forget to check a ticky box or something?

All it would take is one digit wrong (written or read or entered) in the routing number or your account and when the direct deposit bounced they'd revert to a paper check. I've had that happen to me before. It's a royal pain since I almost NEVER actually *go* to the bank.

I emailed accountant. Just heard back. The error was on their part--they should've enetered the info on the forms, and didn't.

Which means I should be expecting a check from the state as well...

Well crap. :-) At least it's ash coming in, just a shame it's got to be in check form instead of *real* money! :-)

The good news is that the bank released the funds immediately because it was a check from the Feds.

That will be the First Sign of the Apocalypse--when the bank holds federal checks until they clear.

Are you serious?

only partly. My credit union credits me regardless of the source of the check. My bank won't credit me for anything that hasn't cleared. It was one of the many reasons I went to direct deposit all those years ago.

When I did my sisters taxes this year I screwed up her direct deposit info and it didn't go through. (although it was copied from last year)

the joys of human error

I checked the appropriate lines on my copy of the tax forms--they were blank. I don't recall ever having to fill them in before--I give the info to the accountant, and he plugs them in with the rest of the numbers.

My fault for not checking, but like I said, I never had to fill them in by hand before.
