One of our stately homes isn't missing

A farmer in Redhill, Great Britain, built a castle, then hid it behind hay bales. He skirted some zoning regs, it seemed, and tried to take advantage of a loophole by hiding his castle for four years, after which he thought it would be grandfathered in. Or something.

The council wants the building near Redhill some 30 km south of London to be demolished, along with an associated conservatory, marquee structure, wooden bridge, patio, decking and tarmac racecourse.

"It looks like a mock-Tudor house from the front and it's got two turrets at the back," the spokeswoman said. "I understand there is also a cannon."

"I understand there is also a cannon."

For some reason, I find that hilarious. :-D

That line got me, too.

Also this:

Fidler's wife Linda told the Daily Mail newspaper the children grew up looking at straw out of the windows of the house and that they kept their son away from playschool on the day his class were due to do paintings of their houses.

"We couldn't have him drawing a big blue haystack," she said. "People might ask questions."

It is, indeed. I've loved him ever since he played Col. McQueen. :-)

Umm...UK actor in UK series, I'm guessing?

Very nice, though. Nice images here, even though the site isn't anywhere near finished.

Actually, American actor, American series. He gave an absolutely amazing performance as Col. T.C. McQueen, an invitro-bred soldier, in "Space: Above and Beyond" back in the late '90's, and he's currently playing Bill Buchanan on "24".

Oh, hell, I didn't know he was on 24. I've never had any especial desire to watch that, but now I'm going to have to. Man!

I hate the show, but I watched the fourth season, just because James was on it. And he's great, as you might imagine. In fact, last year, MSN TV named him as one of the ten best actors on TV. :-)

'Bout damn time, sez I. :-)

ZOMG, you've got an Angry Angel icon. *tuds* I have love in my heart for you and your excellent taste in men/icons/television.

I'm in the middle of watching S:A&B on DVD right now. I'd forgotten just how very much I love both the tanks on that show, and McQueen is, my God. *tud*

As soon as I wipe the drool off my keyboard, I'm going to go have to pop my DVDs in...

*Angry Angel love*

Want!

Not too far from me lives a family that has spent the last thirty years building a castle on their property, stone by stone. Fortunately zoning regulations are apparently a tad more relaxed in rural Pennsylvania. No clue if they have a cannon, or whether they plan to install one.

Every castle needs a cannon.

Not that he was ambitious, or anything.

The cannon got me, and then I did a double-take on the racecourse.
