Nothing really happened conference-wise today.

There was a show-up-and-get-your-packet-and-nametag-and socialize get-together this evening, which was great. I went in not knowing anyone in person, only from the list. Did my usual stand-around-and-figure-out-what-to-say--have I ever mentioned that parties are NOT my strong suit? Then I volunteered to work on the conference packets--met a few folks that way, and it snowballed. It's a welcoming group. So, all good so far.

I spent most of the day hiking to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Took my first walk through Central Park along the way--saw part of a sea lion show, and the usual dog walkers and horse drawn carriages. I can't believe it was only about 3 miles from the hotel to the museum--it seemed so much longer, I mean, I've jogged that distance and it didn't seem that far. Maybe it's all the citiness, and the hard pavement. And the socks. Learned today that sometimes it isn't the shoes, but the socks. Socks you think are soft develop toe-rubbing seams and rough spots after mile 2.

Shoulda packed the sneakers. From now on, will make room for the sneakers.

Anyway, walked through a part of the museum. Was completely overwhelmed by size, scope, and variety of exhibits. Fled to the cafeteria for a snack. Bought a book on 400 years of American clothing. The museum guidebook. Machiavelli's THE PRINCE. And a true crime story of an art heist. Took a cab home--my, but NY cab rides are exciting--and crashed for three hours. Got up in time for the reception.

And the conference starts in earnest at 8am tomorrow so I better get some sleep...

::waves back::

I do like this city a lot. Wish I had time to do more. But the conference runs until late Sunday afternoon, with meal breaks and that's about it. Lots of neat topics, though. Looking forward to the graphic novels discussion.
